As an educational counsellor with Learner Support Services at Athabasca University, it is my passion to assist adult learners in achieving their learning goals. I am a life-long learner; my learning journey includes a Bachelor of Administration from Athabasca University. After earning my AU degree I worked in a number of administration, business, and project management roles and eventually earned a designation as a certified Project Management Professional (PMP). After nearly a decade I returned to university once again and completed a Master of Counselling specializing in career counselling at Campus Alberta Applied Psychology (CAAP), a collaborative effort between Athabasca University, University of Lethbridge, and the University of Calgary. Following that degree I worked in corporate training and organizational development for a number of years. Currently I am a Doctor of Education, EdD Candidate (Workplace and Adult Learning) at the University of Calgary. My research draws from the understanding of transformative learning in which learning reshapes the adult learner’s epistemology and ontology changing the individual’s self concept, worldview, and behaviours. Specifically, I am exploring the role of spiritual practices in shaping career values during a mid-life career transition.
All my education has been completed through distance on-line learning while working and managing family responsibilities as well as commitments to the larger community. I understand the sacrifice that students make in order to achieve their learning and career goals. It is a challenging task - not an easy one - but certainly a rewarding one!
When I am not attending university (and I have spent a lot of time and money doing that!), I enjoy visiting different regions of the world where I continue my learning journey as I admire local culture, arts, history, architecture, and music. Europe is my favourite travel destination where I have enjoyed many wonderful learning opportunities. I am also an outdoor enthusiast and enjoy hiking, camping, biking, and kayaking in the summer and snow shoeing and skiing in the winter with family and friends.
As you balance the demands of life with your love for learning and strive toward your educational and career goals, I look forward to supporting your learning journey.
