Dr. Connie Covey, EdD
As an educational counsellor with Learner Support Services at Athabasca University, it is my passion to assist adult learners with achieving their learning goals. I am a life-long learner, and my learning journey includes a Bachelor of Administration from Athabasca University. After earning my AU degree I worked in a number of administration, business, and project management roles and eventually earned a designation as a certified Project Management Professional (PMP). After nearly a decade after completing my first degree I returned to university once again and completed a Master of Counselling specializing in career counselling at Campus Alberta Applied Psychology (CAAP), a collaborative effort between Athabasca University, University of Lethbridge, and the University of Calgary. Following that degree I worked in corporate training and organizational development for a number of years. Just when I thought I was finished with my formal education, I returned to university once again to complete a Doctor of Education, EdD in Education Research, Adult Learning at the University of Calgary.
All of my education has been completed through distance online learning while working and managing family responsibilities as well as commitments to the larger community. I understand the sacrifice that students make in order to achieve their learning and career goals. It is a challenging task - not an easy one - but certainly a rewarding one!
In addition to my formal education, I also enjoy informal education by visiting different regions of the world where I continue my learning journey as I admire local culture, art, history, architecture, and music. Europe is my favourite travel destination where I have enjoyed many wonderful learning opportunities. I am also an outdoor enthusiast and enjoy hiking, camping, biking, and kayaking in the summer and snow shoeing and skiing in the winter with family and friends.
As you balance the demands of life with online learning and strive toward your education and career goals, I look forward to supporting you on your learning journey.
